Sick Little Man

My precious grandson Zadok Lewis has been in the hospital overnight and on IV fluids for over 24 hours, and this treatment has not re-hydrated him. The diagnosis is Rota Virus, and it has left him severely dehydrated. I’m using today’s post to ask for prayer and for you to leave Zadok a comment below, so we can show how many people cared for him when he was so sick.

He has not urinated in a few days, verified for over 24 hours, and is not eating or drinking on his own now, though we have seen some slight encouragement in the past few hours. This photo was from yesterday when he was still taking in fluids, but he is not even doing that much at all today. The doctors will not discharge him until he is eating, drinking, and urinating on his own. I am copying the feed from our family page as I have it now, so you know how to pray for him; please excuse formatting issues from copy/paste:

Cassie Lewis
6 hrs

I’m going to just start this thread for updates because I’m going to clog up the whole page by the time this is done.

He still has not had any urine output, so this is more than 24 hours without peeing. Obviously not a good thing especially considering how much fluid he has been given. He had another pretty major puke a few hours ago that the nurse was in the room for and able to help us get him through. It’s not a normal upset tummy as he is very bloated in his abdomen. Nurse says everything sounds like it is moving the right direction and as long as he continues to poop they aren’t too concerned about his belly… More the hydration issue with lack of urine.

She is doing vitals in about 10 minutes and the doctors start their rounds at 5, so we will have something more around then. I don’t know how much more fluid this little dude can take before he starts to float!! Pray for pee!!!!!!

Cassie Lewis His diaper was slightly heavier, but still no pee. Whatever is making his tummy bloat is making its way out slowly but surely. Still worried about no urine output since they haven’t stopped giving him fluid even for a minute since he came in almost 20 hours ago… I’m going to start a hashtag#prayforpee……

Martha Sumpter Freeze pops, his favorite. (Popsicles)

Cassie LewisHe has had at least 10. In 24 hours… Everything he threw up last night was freeze pops and a few graham crackers…

Cassie LewisDoc was here. She wants to see eating, drinking and peeing before he leaves. He just ate some apple sauce which is incredible… We now have to see if it will stay down. Slow and steady. She did say that his one big achievement overnight was lowering his heart rate which is huge!

Rachel Carlisle Sumpter Are they concerned about him not peeing with all the fluid he’s taking in?

Cassie LewisShort answer. Yes.

Long answer. Only sort of… Its more concerning that he is not eating or drinking much by himself. Everything is coming thru an IV… Not a great way to have things going. He has to be eating and drinking without the IV even hooked up in order to go home and still maintain wet diapers. It is going to take a while to even observe that.
Cassie LewisAnother doctor stopped by…
His skin is still showing signs of really bad dehydration… Despite all the efforts to fix it. She said its not likely he is leaving today which is what we figured…
Cassie Lewis He is playful and flirty with his nurse. That’s a good sign. We are making baby steps in the right direction… They are just baby steps.
Rachel Carlisle SumpterGlad he’s at least starting to feel a little better!
Cassie Lewis He is staying another night. Just not quite meeting the go home criteria… All 4 doctors say he looks much better than yesterday and even this morning.
